Who's
Doing Back-Office Integration Best? Every enterprise wants it, every
software maker touts it, and every consultant sells it. But, despite all the focus
on integration between CRM and ERP systems, a recent Gartner survey of IT executives
found that high deployment costs and integration issues still top the list of
CRM project roadblocks...
Is the Internet Driving Offline Travel Sales? Despite complaints
from travel agency organizations that online sales operations can put them at
a disadvantage, the Internet is actually beginning to drive "significant
business activity" for traditional, off-line travel agencies, contends a
new report. Data analysis from Respond Networks shows that consumers increasingly
are doing their travel research for larger transactions online, then completing
them with a traditional travel agency. Bottom
line: E-tail is growing fast Once known for dot-com excess, online retailing
is on its way to becoming a profitable industry, according to a Shop.org study
to be released Wednesday. Some 56 percent of retailers surveyed by Shop.org reported
profits at their online operations in 2001. Meanwhile, the study projects that
the total U.S. e-tail market, combining the results of all the companies involved
in online retailing, will hit breakeven on operating margins this year. "Consumer
adoption of the online channel has reached critical mass and retailers have been
able to respond by turning this trend into profits," Elaine Rubin, chairman
of Shop.org, said in a statement. Biometric driver's licenses within five years?

biometric markers on all states' driver's licenses within five years, according
to federal legislation the pair filed Wednesday. MODEL:
PARTICIPANTS Bush Calls
for Faster Broadband Rollout The excruciatingly slow rollout of high-speed
Internet access in the United States got a potential boost this week when President
George W. Bush urged providers to deploy broadband services more quickly. "This
country must be aggressive on the expansion of broadband," Bush said... E-markets Make
a Comeback While B2C dot-coms may have fallen out of favor, it's a different
story in the B2B sector, where B2B e-marketplaces--even after the dot-com crash--still
hold some currency. A Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Line56 Research survey
found that more than 75 percent of respondents consider e-markets either strategically
important or a source of competitive advantage. Even so, many e-markets of all
types are still working out how to reconcile the high hopes of the past with the
bottom-line deliverables that enterprises require in the present. If you're taking
your business to an e-market, it's helpful to consider the lessons of the past
few years. Sun's SAN Offers Wider Reach
System helps business-continuity planning and centralizes management. As the need
for storage grows, so does the cost and complexity associated with network-based
options. Sun Microsystems this week is unveiling a product that may help with
both challenges. EBay
Targets Office Rental Market In an effort to attract users from the small
business arena, eBay has forged a deal with office outsourcer Regus to help businesses
find and rent equipped offices. The new service is part of eBay Real Estate, an
online marketplace for real estate-related properties and services... Study:
Design lacking in e-tail sites The design of some of the leading online
stores is mediocre at best, but it is improving, according to a new study by Web
site usability expert Jakob Nielsen. The study examined 15 e-commerce sites, including
those of Martha Stewart, L.L. Bean and Office Depot. The study found that sites
met an average of 49 percent of the usability guidelines developed by Nielsen's
consulting company, the Nielsen Norman Group. STRATEGY:
MANAGED HP calls it quits on e-biz software The executive
VP of HP's enterprise systems group says the company has suffered heavy losses
with its own e-business software and will now partner with other software companies
to offer HP customers the programs they need to take their business to the Web.

he told CRMDaily... Loudcloud Sells Hosting Biz to EDS for $63.5M Loudcloud,
